Welcome to St James’

Worship at the Heart of our Community

Food Bank

Our church is committed to loving our neighbours in very practical ways, and one of the ways we do this is through our well-stocked, much-used community food bank.

Week by week, we support individuals and families who are finding life difficult, offering food, toiletries and everyday essentials with warmth, dignity and no judgement.

If you are struggling, please get in touch. Whether you need a one-off parcel or longer-term support, we will do our very best to help you. Everything we offer is given freely, in the spirit of Christ’s compassion and care.

Supporting Our Community

Our food bank is run by volunteers from the church and wider community who believe that no one should face hardship alone. We work quietly and respectfully, offering a listening ear as well as practical help.

Donations from church members, local residents and partner organisations allow us to respond quickly when needs arise.

We believe that sharing food is a sign of hope — a reminder that God’s love is shown not only in words but in action.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Donate or Volunteer

If you would like to donate, volunteer or find out more, please contact us. Together we can make sure that every person in our community knows they are valued, supported and never forgotten.

When to Visit

The church is open for food support on Tuesday and Sunday mornings. If you need help at another time, please use the contact number on this website to get in touch.

Eat ‘N’ Meet

Eat ‘N’ Meet is held once a month on a Tuesday at 12 noon. Please see the What’s On page for upcoming dates.

Everyone in the community is welcome to come along and enjoy a three-course meal for a minimum donation of £5.

Come along for good company, good food and good laughs. Everyone is welcome.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is at the heart of our church’s ministry. Our vicar offers support to anyone in the parish who needs a listening ear, a prayerful presence or practical help during difficult times.

Whether you are facing illness, bereavement, loneliness, family worries, or simply need someone to talk to, we are here for you.

Home Visits

Home visits are an important part of this ministry. If you are housebound, recovering from illness, or would simply value a visit, the vicar is very happy to come to you.

These visits can include conversation, prayer, Holy Communion at home, or quiet companionship — whatever feels most helpful and comforting.

Support When You Need It

Pastoral care is offered gently and confidentially, with deep respect for each person’s story. We believe that every individual is precious in God’s sight, and that caring for one another is a sign of Christ’s love at work in our community.

Our vicar works closely with local organisations to ensure that support is available when it is most needed. Sometimes this means practical help; sometimes it means spiritual guidance; sometimes it simply means sitting alongside someone so they know they are not alone.

“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

If you or someone you know would appreciate a visit or pastoral support, please contact us. You will be met with kindness, understanding and the reassurance that you are held in prayer.

Reel Connections monthly film club

Every month we host a film night, and everyone is welcome to come along.

We offer a varied programme of films across a range of genres, as well as family-friendly screenings at the end of each school term.

Admission is free and refreshments are provided. Optional discussion resources are also available to help spark conversation at home or on the night.

What’s Showing?

Due to film licensing restrictions, film titles are shared verbally with the church community and displayed within the church building. Film details can also be made available by email on request.

When Is Film Night?

Film Night is usually held on the last Wednesday of each month. Please see the What’s On page for upcoming dates.

We’d love you to join us!
